Let's Play Umineko no Naku Koro ni - Episode 3 Chapter 10
Episode 3 Chapter 10 – Like Some Kind of Closed Room Trading Sequence

[BGM: Dead Angle]
It sure is murder in here.

We know better than Piece Battler, currently, how nonchalant Maria can be.

Now that there isn't one central ringleader among the survivors like Natsuhi or Rosa in the previous games, they feel they ought to bring out more than just the one gun. There's conveniently one per sibling.

This is the first time Krauss, Rudolf and Kyrie have survived the first twilight, isn't it? Maybe they'll keep the atmosphere lightened up.

I wouldn't put it past Kinzo!
As usual, the survivors are holed up to wait out the storm before they can possibly contact help. So what went down with discovering the rest of the bodies?

They never would have found him in the study, since only Genji could provide the spare key. Although that would have made a hell of a closed room.

Nanjo can't tell the difference between a spear wound and a bullet wound?

Hrm. That's a lot of compelling alibis. Unless they're all in it together. I doubt it, though. Seven accomplices is seriously pushing it.

Declaring the mansion in its entirety a danger zone is certainly a new strategy for survival. Let's see how it works out.

Because, as the last two games made painfully clear, some people don't deal well with subtlety.

So, for once, they might actually get to thinking about it.

Kinda sucks that they have to keep lookout after already having entirely skipped a night's sleep.

What are you so worried about, Battler. It's not like anybody else is gonna die. After all, you're going to solve the goddamned epitaph, right?
PAUSE.

Nailed it. So what's your play, Battler?

Of course she pulled all the tricks that made the servants easy to accuse back when he was trying to get away with not suspecting anyone. Now that he's properly on the lookout, she won't bother tempting him with scapegoats.

But as harsh as that sounds for Battler, the fact remains that she's limiting her own movements more than his. Much like any use of the red truth.

Beato is the mother of all lies.

It's true, she's helping Battler a lot. Beato gets tons of help from her furniture, anyway. Our side deserves an assist for a change.

Battler is still going to do most of his own thinking. Virgilia's just there to keep his train of thought from veering off into dumbass country.
Which, to be fair, is a full-time job.

[BGM: Dancing Pipe]
Let's get down to business. What do we know about the crime scenes?

Just to be on the safe side, what EXACTLY is a closed room?

That should work.

Battler walks the fine line between keeping his guard up and being a pain in the ass. The point is, Beatrice's closed rooms are rooms that cannot be accessed or influenced from the outside, short of some basic ways of communicating with the people inside. Proceeding...

That's one accounted for.

One master key, one normal key to a different room.

Oh, this shit is gonna get confusing. That's two master keys accounted for.

Three master keys down.

The direction this is going is downright diabolical. Beato trusted Ronove with the placement of the bodies this time, and he didn't disappoint.

Every master key was inside a closed room as of the completion of the first twilight. Also in each of those rooms was the only individual key to another one of them. It's not just a closed room. It's a perfect uroboros of closed rooms.

And, right, that.

Quite the puzzle. Of course, as with any impressive move Team Beato makes, it's risky. All six closed rooms fall apart if Battler can find fault with one of them, right?

She's like a child. A psychotic, bloodthirsty child.

I assume this sword is red?

Waah waaaaaah. Beato's jealous. They're just discussing tactics over there, don't worry.

Here's her chance to get his attention again!

By making a big mistake. REMIX TIME
[BGM: Dread of the Grave – More Fear]

The Free Information train isn't slowing down. More questions!

“Instant” doesn't mean it doesn't take a minute or two to bleed out. He's just ruling out the possibility that anyone went and locked themselves in a room after being mortally wounded outside.

That'll do, Beato.

Time for Battler to go on the attack.

Not quite.

All he needs for a theory that would make a remote murder possible for a human is some good old-fashioned outlandish bullshit!

Beato's game is all about outlandish bullshit. He's not reaching, he's getting the hang of it. Well, that and reaching. It's 50/50.

[SFX: ahaha.wav]

OUTLANDISH BULLSHIT

Virgilia's certainly making a difference.

Well, there goes that. But hey! What's a trap?

She's getting sloppy, in both tactics and demeanor.

Beato's advantage has never been as definitive as she's been claiming. Making Battler feel overwhelmed was a tactic. Keeping him too emotionally distressed to think.

I'll admit, I'm stumped. Let's see if Calm Battler can outsmart me.

He's positing that the culprit committed suicide during the first twilight. Most unorthodox! I can't decide whether or not this will come back to kick him in the face.

I wouldn't put it past Kinzo!

He's on too much of a roll to back down because of a hypocritical guilt trip.

Good idea.

Is she choking?

That's nice for now. So, Battler.

Battler. Remember. Traaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaap.

Fortunately, Beato lacks the composure to spring that on him later when he's good and invested in it.

She also lacked the composure to build that up enough to hide the loophole. Still, Battler sure does owe Virgilia for catching that, because he wasn't gonna.

An accidental death in a murder mystery? Even unorthodoxer than a suicide!

Ronove has some very forceful advice for his boss, and I imagine it's something like stop swinging the red truth around like a wrecking ball you moron. Way to ruin it for us, dude. Watching her fuck up was fun.

Team Battler is fair about it.

She really does need to be handled like a child.

At any rate, this game is going great so far. Virgilia says “that child” a lot.

Battler certainly is the expert on panicking and fucking everything up.

Look who's back from time out.

[BGM: Mother]

Sick burn.

Battler is in the lead so far in this game. Let's hope it stays that way. I mean, it won't, but we can wish really hard at the problem and it won't hurt anything.

She's very likely to red truth the accident theory into oblivion later. He'd better not wait until he has to to start thinking of alternative theories.

He's planning to identify the culprit, but he doesn't have to like it. Every move he makes towards victory is also a move towards painting a friend or family member as a murderer.
