Let's Play Umineko no Naku Koro ni - Episode 2 Chapter 13

Episode 2 Chapter 13 – Zombie Goasts

I hope you're pumped for more riveting waiting and being scared!

I already provided a link explaining this, but Maria gives Battler the lowdown. This is Rosa's strategy for survival; she tries to figure out who's definitely, definitely innocent, starting with herself, and never leaves those people outnumbered by the suspicious. If there are more wolves than sheep on the boat/in a room, the wolves attack.

They had lunch, by the way. Canned food to make sure it wasn't poisoned, of course.

George does not understand the exercise Rosa is carrying out here.

Everybody but the family, skedaddle.

Rosa's taking no prisoners here. BUT WAIT

It's kind of like the shed in the first game, albeit very toned-down. The servants look suspicious because it'd be hard for anybody else to do it, but the culrpit went to what seems like totally pointless extra effort to make sure it'd be hard for anybody else to do it. They weren't hoping Jessica's body wouldn't be discovered, and even if they were, the lock didn't slow everybody down much. Why set it?

My money's on magic.

Your counterargument for this is simple, Battler. Explain that you're playing a game with Beatrice on a higher plane of metaexistence and she assured you of it in magic colorful anti-lying words.

Instead, Rosa just keeps on suspecting Kanon. And suddenly, Battler figures out exactly what she means, and why it doesn't actually contradict the red.

Rosa?

It's a mystery classic. The culprit can escape a closed room by carefully hiding inside the room, waiting for the people discovering the body to open the door, then leaving after they do. Rosa posits Kanon didn't have to open the door and lock it from the outside; he locked it, put the key in Jessica's pocket, and waited.

Now that can't possibly be right. PAUSE.

Rosa's reasoning also applies to blaming Piece Beatrice without assuming she can use magic, but there's a hole in it.

This was also stated in red. Secret passages and trap doors are the stuff of hack mystery; Beato's classing this story up too much to deign to Scooby Doo shit like that.

Just to put a neater little button on it.

Too bad it won't stop Aunt Rosa. UNPAUSE.

George, Rosa doesn't actually not suspect Shannon. They almost get into a fight over it.

She promises to act as a mother in protecting Battler and George, too, since their parents are dead. Maybe she'll start hitting them.

Rosa says she does have proof.

OH MY GOD HE WAS ACCIDENTALLY RIGHT SHE'S THE CULPRIT

Aha! Hahaha. By which I mean...

She could easily kill them, but she hasn't! So she must not be the culprit! Haha! Works for me!

Of course, there's also the angle that maybe you shouldn't constantly argue about everything with the one holding the gun.

And if you don't make up, she'll bust a cap in your ass.

PAUSE.

UNPAUSE.

Suddenly, a change of scenery.

Ironically enough, the servants are having a much better time now that Rosa's exiled them. Genji and Nanjo play chess again.

Bored now. Know who I miss?

Yeah, that guy. Hi, Kanon!

How rude, people are trying to eat soup.

Kanon implores them not to tell Rosa.

In the servants' room, Nanjo tries everything he knows (not much) about curing Giant Hole in the Chest syndrome.

Kanon's gonna die.

Again.

Because it was confirmed in red truth that he died in Jessica's room.

You know, thinking about it, this whole sequence has been kind of odd.

Kanon accuses Rosa of the murders. The other servants are shocked and confused, of course.

Shannon suddenly realizes something important. What the hell is going on, anyway?

Hm. Not generally how dying people work.

Kanon?

No Black Knight references, please.

[SFX: ahaha.wav]

Guys, hear me out. It might sound crazy, but I've got this theory... what if this guy isn't really Kanon?

Everybody BACK THE FUCK UP. Shannon's got this. She's got a wiped-up spider-web and she's not afraid to use it!

Kanon's never been afraid of spiders before.

But they're an important part of all the island's old superstitions. Spiders and their webs are the natural enemy of the demonic spirits of Rokkenjima.

[BGM: Red Dread]

By the way, Shannon doesn't actually have this. She may owe Nanjo and Kumasawa an apology.

All told, Genji's got some moves for a 190-year-old.

Moves.

Not normal dying behavior, really.

Nanjo and Kumasawa's throats are wide open. They have literally seconds to live.

Equally pressing: what the fuck was that?
