Let's Play Umineko no Naku Koro ni - Episode 3 Chapter 14

Episode 3 Chapter 14 – They're So Totally Safe

Didn't Rosa complain all the way back in EP1 that she always gets caught between the siblings when they talk economics? Because this time Krauss and Eva are blurring the line between “economics” and “life or death,” but otherwise handling the situation the same way as always. Yeesh.

That should make it Rudolf and Kyrie's turn...

It's almost like none of them want to sleep with their siblings around. BUT THAT WOULD BE RIDICULOUS AHAHAHA.

You were saying?

Smiling! Really! Hard!

She did trek she-and-Rosa-know-how-far across the island in the freezing wind and rain. (Without sleeves.) Not that the others know that. Might be feeling a little unwell.

But this means she needs rest. And of course everybody has their totally innocent reasons for not wanting to go to sleep while surrounded by loved ones.

No but seriously, Rosa could fuck everything up while she's out. She'll have to let that veiled threat stand on its own, because she's gonna go lie down after all.

Does she also tend to express her irritation by giggling and taunting people? Because if not I doubt she tends to do that thing you said she tends to do.

She does, however, get kinda cranky over a variety of things unrelated to mass murder. The party comes downstairs.

Rosa's the expert on calming her daughter! Ha! Ha!

Oh, it's... that, yeah. Usually this only happens yesterday, but Beato went and fixed her rose once and now she wants to know if it's been unfixed or not.

Don't ever have kids. Especially if you're emotionally stunted and potentially abusive due to the extremely dysfunctional relationship every single member of your extended family has with every single other member.

On second thought, just don't ever be an Ushiromiya.

Do those even work on Maria? They've never been in evidence before.

Well, there's your problem.

MEANWHILE, IN THE BEDROOM

I dunno what you were expecting from that transition. Get your mind out of the gutter.

[BGM: Worldend]

Eva is a ridiculously different person depending on whether or not she's alone with Hideyoshi. These two are like if teddy bears were spliced with the newborn kitten gene and trained by the world's foremost affectionate puppies.

This Eva isn't aware that her other half has become the Golden Witch. But she is getting a funny feeling.

Let's not be too hasty about how past-tense that statement should be.

This is some weird sweet talk, but still sweet.

Maybe she's just a little delirious.

Definitely delirious.

Finally, with Hideyoshi's help, Eva manages to drift off to sleep...

Oh for fuck's sake.

Right, too pitiful. That's the reason Rosa prefers to deal with Maria with no one watching definitely.

Surely Maria will respond to being asked nicely.

I take taking-it-back back. You should indeed never have children.

I wouldn't put too much faith in Rosa's “actions as a mother” if I were Hideyoshi, but then I'm not Hideyoshi.

Hideyoshi does, however, know just how to cheer Eva up: encouraging her to gloat about George.

For now, though, she doesn't have the energy.

Back out in the hallway!

Rosa is in a difficult parenting situation. Very fortunately for Maria, they can't get any privacy in the guesthouse, so...

GOD WHERE'S THE MUTE BUTTON ON THIS THING

You know how you're not supposed to give a little kid what they want when they throw a tantrum over it, or they'll learn that that's how they get what they want? Yeah, I get the feeling it's not some kind of subtle Pavlovian mindset thing for Maria. I get the feeling most of her hysterics are calculated performances. She's just learned a lot from her mama about being duplicitous.

For one thing, parent-child arguments do not usually feel this much like negotiating with a terrorist mastermind for the parent. What's your angle, Maria.

And besides, Rosa subscribes to the Weird Kinzo Prank Theory. It's not like there's really anything dangerous out here!

Rosa can reward actual bad behavior from her daughter and lightly beat her for having a weird laugh at the same time. You may not like the profession of being a bad mother, but you have to admit, that takes talent.

And they're definitely not in even a little bit of danger at all.

PAUSE

What's the problem, Battler? Beato's not the golden witch anymore. Surely EVA-Beatrice will find a more peaceful way to revive herself? I mean, she's technically your aunt, she's not that bad a person.

Oh also, you theorized that the culprit is already dead, so there's that. Magic. Not existing. Right.
