Let's Play Umineko no Naku Koro ni - Episode 2 Chapter 15

Episode 2 Chapter 15 – I'm Beginning to Suspect Beatrice Has Issues

Away from Rosa, Shannon and the rest see fit to tell George what happened with the Kanon lookalike. George tries to process the information, but he naturally has some questions.

Confused, right. For sure. At any rate, the evil spirits of Rokkenjima are very arachnophobic.

Come now, Shannon, you musn't blame yourself just because it's all your fault!

She's coming right out with her whole story here. The non-rifle-brandishing survivors deserve to know exactly how real Beatrice is.

If only they still had a magical anti-witch mirror...

Hold on.

The macguffin that never came to anything in the last game! What if they actually used it this time, and it saved them all?

Hell yeah! George is mostly championing this cause as a covert way to make Shannon feel better. He's not convinced about the whole magic thing, but he respects how strongly the servants believe it, especially Shannon.

Well dicks, how are they gonna deal with that?

Graverobbing is how. The chapel was relocked, too, so the plan is to run through the darkness and the pounding rain to the chapel, break a window, climb over the broken glass, try not to slip on blood or candy or vomit in the dark, loot Natsuhi's day-old corpse, THEN come back to the mansion and get the mirror from her bedroom.

Considering Gohda's an eight foot tall gorilla, wouldn't it be easier to just have him break Natsuhi's door down? No? Whatever.

Dignity should not ooze.

Genji chooses to stay behind. He's putting himself in tremendous danger. But... he has his reasons.

Besides.

He can damn well take care of himself.

Rosa's standing sentry.

Battler and Maria are both thinking about the epitaph, but Maria's thinking about it as a puzzle and Battler's thinking about it as the culprit's instruction manual.

So obviously SOMEBODY needs to get their priorities straight, Battler.

You could try and find out. No? Okay. Maria gives him a good magic=risk rant, nothing you haven't heard from Kinzo. At any rate, she's absolutely positive that someone solving the epitaph is Beatrice's losing condition for the ceremony. But that's based on the idea of how magic works, which means it's incumbent on magic being real. Battler can't bring himself to buy it. It's all so confusing.

And that's the mystery. How can he know if solving thePAUSE

That works.

It's true. Beatrice's game has certain rules, and it only works if she follows them.

Huh. She seems... bitter.

She only has a limited amount of time to babble about witch philosophy with Battler around to get bored and interject. This is why I like Battler.

UNPAUSE.

And back to these guys! The chapel heist is almost done with.

By the way the bodies are still gross, the third-person narrator wanted me to pass it on.

OOOOOOOOOOHHHHHHHHHH BALLS

They're too incompetent in their panicked state to get out!

She only needs three more sacrifices. The ceremony's as good as over.

[BGM: Worldend Dominator]

George gets the door open, and he, Shannon and Gohda run like few people will ever feel the need to run.

The rain gives them a headstart, so they actually make it to Natsuhi's room within the mansion.

MIRROR MIRROR MIRROR MIRROR MIRROR

LESS MANNERS MORE TEARING SHIT APART GEORGE

Guys? You're out of time. Gohda peaks his head out the door; outside the room, he hears perhaps the worst possible thing to hear in this situation.

Marching.

Beatrice is done with pretenses of the mansion not belonging to her. She mobilizes an entire batallion of goats through the halls.

NOPE NOPE NOPE NOPE

Of course locking the door isn't actually working. All Gohda can do is hold the door closed by force, but hey, force is his specialty, right?

PRY BETTER

Oh shit.

Beelzebub
Stake of Purgatory
Specialty: Gluttony

The sixth sister, for those who will try to keep track.

Gohda dies screaming like a little girl. Beatrice and a few of her goats enter the room unimpeded. She does a quick magical wardrobe change—she's gonna need her killing clothes.

[SFX: ahaha.wav]

Huzzah! Maybe the mirror which might work possibly is in there maybe!

!

Shannon's not the same kind of furniture as Kanon. She can't do that crazy sword shit.

She specializes in shields.

She's also a lot more powerful. She and George are enveloped in a barrier that can actually do a decent job repelling most of Beato's furniture in siege conditions.

Shannon was done getting trolled a long time ago, Beato. Come up with better antics if you want to break her resolve.

Shannon's barriers really are A+, by the way. She can easily use them offensively too.

Shut up, schnookums, she can handle this.

Yeah, that explains a lot. She could deal with plenty of goats easily anyway, but the mirror is why it would take Beato herself non-negligible effort to smash the barrier and kill them.

[SFX: ahaha.wav]

Ahem. No.

She's fucking human.

Even if she dies here, Shanon stands by the power of love.

Beatrice... has opinions.

I'm not cutting out Shannon or George arguing here or anything. She's not giving them time. She's flown off the fucking handle.

[SFX: ahaha.wav]

The barrier's under rapidfire heavy assault. It's not going to hold.

It breaks.

Their love is the most offensive thing Beatrice has ever seen.

George does not live to finish that sentence. What she does to them is beyond what even Ryukishi is willing to describe.
